PURPOSE:
To teach sprinter’s the correct posture to reduce injuries and increase top speed.
SETUP:
No equipment needed. Have athletes begin in a line on the track.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Begin by evaluating each sprinter’s posture.
- They should have their hips tilted straight up, shoulders relaxed, and the navel pulled back towards the spine.
- This will give the sprinter a tall, powerful position that will bounce dynamically down the track with each step.

On the right: correct sprint posture, with the hips level and sprinter standing tall.of movements
COACHING TIPS
- When the sprinter is in their acceleration phase, it is okay for the hips to be slightly tilted forward, but once they reach top speed, their hips should be level as they assume correct sprint posture.
- The sprinter should think of their hips as a bowl of water. If they stay tilted forward, they are letting water slip out. In other words, by tilting the hips forward they are letting power slip out and increasing their chances of a hamstring injury.
