Purpose
Runner practices driving forward and increasing stride.
Setup
- Place flat, small sticks (such as yardsticks) on the track at various distances. First one – approx. .5 meters from start. Then increase the distance of each subsequent stick – so it would be .5, .7, .9, 1.1 and so on.
How it Works
- Runner begins at starting line.
- Coach says, “Go.”
- Runner goes forward driving each foot down and back so heel touches the stick.
Coaching Tips
- Determine distance sticks are placed based on the size and skill of the runner – you want them to increase toward a good lengthy stride.
