Runner practices driving forward and increasing stride.

  • Place flat, small sticks (such as yardsticks) on the track at various distances. First one – approx. .5 meters from start. Then increase the distance of each subsequent stick – so it would be .5, .7, .9, 1.1 and so on.

How it Works

  1. Runner begins at starting line.
  2. Coach says, “Go.”
  3. Runner goes forward driving each foot down and back so heel touches the stick.

Coaching Tips

  • Determine distance sticks are placed based on the size and skill of the runner – you want them to increase toward a good lengthy stride.
